Justice40 Accelerator Celebrates Impact at Inflection Moment

Since 2021, the Justice 40 Accelerator has helped community-based organizations win federal grants for climate projects that benefit local communities across the United States. Over 80% of the 168 proposals we helped prepare were successfully awarded.

Our Focus

With the new Federal Administration’s decision to cut funding to community-led climate programs, we are adapting the focus of the program under the interim name Economic Justice Accelerator. We will continue our work to improve the health, vibrancy, and resiliency of vulnerable communities and protect the progress already underway as a result of grants secured to date.

Who We Are

Founded by award-winning nonprofit organizations in the climate justice movement, the purpose of the Justice40 Accelerator was to support community-based groups at the frontlines of the climate crisis as they applied for Justice40 Initiative federal funds dedicated to improving the health, economic opportunities, and climate resilience of communities across the country.

The Initiative, established by President Biden, directed 40% of the overall benefits from certain federal climate, clean energy, and other investments to disadvantaged communities that are underserved and overburdened by pollution. It represented the largest investment the federal government has ever made in grassroots organizing for climate and environmental justice.

What We Do

As the Economic Justice Accelerator, we provide participating community-based organizations with unrestricted charitable grants to support the implementation of projects conceived and funded under the Justice40 Initiative.

We offer one-on-one technical assistance, expert federal grants Navigator support, and workshops on effectively managing government grants. Finally, we facilitate peer-to-peer learning sessions and an ongoing alumni network.
